Tiffin University - Degree Completion Program

Has anyone used or is familiar with The College Network (online courses)?

I am an LPN trying to earn my BSN through The College Network partnered with Indiana State University. I would really love any feedback regarding this, or any online program that anyone has had experience with. Thanks!
.

I know the college network is not a school nor do they award degrees, but provides module study guides in order to 'test out' for the pre-req's, then my credits will be applied to the BSN program at ISU for completion of the degree program there inculuding the final nursing courses and clinicals. The question I am asking is if anyone out there has used this method, is it reputable, is it professional, etc? Is The College Network reputable? Reliable? I plan to contact my state board of nursing tomorrow and see if they have any information as well. Just want to see if anyone else has used this method!!

Try learn direct, I have done stuff with them it is recognized and well respected. College network seems very expensive in comparision

Good luck whatever you decide

Associations of mindfulness, perceived stress, and health behaviors in college freshmen.

Associations of mindfulness, perceived stress, and health behaviors in college freshmen.

$69

U.S. college students perceive stress as the greatest health impediment to academic performance. When stressful occurrences are greater than coping resources, students experience debilitative setbacks influencing their ability to persist to degree completion. Freshmen tend to have more difficulty dealing with stress, exhibiting greater susceptibility to engaging in high risk health behaviors (e.g., physical inactivity, unhealthy nutrition and substance abuse). Mindfulness programs may be an effective behavioral strategy for transforming student coping responses, but implementation must be predicated on understanding relationships of mindfulness to perceived stress, self-efficacy, and health behaviors. This study used a cross-sectional, descriptive design to examine these associations by means of a Web-based survey in a large southwestern university. First-time transitioning freshmen students (9,275, aged 18 to 22 years) were recruited through university email, Fall semester, 2007. Participant response rate was approximately 22 percent (2,029 respondents), similar to online national health survey response rates. Questionnaires composing the survey included: (1) Demographics; (2) Health Behavior [items from National College Health Assessment, Healthstyle Self-test, Baecke Physical Activity Questionnaire, and 36-item Short-form Health Survey]; (3) Perceived Stress Scale; (4) Mindful Attention Awareness Scale; (5) Kentucky Inventory of Mindfulness Skills; and, (6) General Self-efficacy Scale. Data collection was completed in November, 2007. Self-report assessments were evaluated with Pearson Product Moment Correlation Analysis to compare relationships of mindfulness and perceived stress, general self-efficacy and health behaviors. Higher dispositional mindfulness was significantly correlated with higher self-efficacy, lower perceived stress and less high risk health behaviors. This study included investigation of similarities and differences between male and female

Factors Affecting Persistence of Women in Online Programs

Factors Affecting Persistence of Women in Online Programs

This qualitative case study explored the phenomenon of undergraduate and graduate women learners' persistence in online degree-completion programs at an open-enrollment college in the Northeast of the United States. Research questions asked why women learners persisted or failed to persist, how factors supporting or hindering persistence influenced learners, and whether barriers to persistence reached a crisis point at which learners interrupted their studies. Interviews with a purposeful sample of 20 participants revealed the complexity of variables affecting learners' persistence to graduation. Findings suggested that multiple responsibilities, lack of interaction with faculty, technology, and coursework ranked highest as barriers to women's persistence. Strong motivation to complete degrees, engagement in the learning community, and appreciation for the convenience of an online degree-completion option facilitated persistence.
